Sandra D. Comer, Ph.D., is a professor of neurobiology in the department of psychiatry at Columbia University and a research scientist VI at the New York State Psychiatric Institute. She directs the Opioid Laboratories in the Division on Substance Use Disorders, where her research focuses on novel treatments for opioid use disorder and the abuse liability of opioids.
A leader in the field, Comer has served on the NYSPI Institutional Review Board for over a decade and is an active member of the College on Problems of Drug Dependence (CPDD), where she served as president and now acts as public policy officer. She is also a member of the World Health Organization Expert Advisory Panel on Drug Dependence. Comer regularly advises the FDA, reviews NIH grants, and mentors early-career scientists. She has published more than 150 scientific papers, book chapters, and reviews.
