CLINILABS DRUG DEVELOPMENT CORPORATION ANNOUNCES THE LAUNCH OF NARCOLEPSYPROJECT.COM, A WEBSITE DESIGNED TO HELP PEOPLE WITH NARCOLEPSY AND IDIOPATHIC HYPERSOMNIA FIND CLINICAL TRIALS MORE EASILY

Eatontown, NJ, May 1, 2024 – Clinilabs Drug Development Corporation today announced the launch of NarcolepsyProject.com, a new website devoted to patients with narcolepsy and idiopathic hypersomnia (IH). This patient-centric and user-friendly tool helps people with narcolepsy and IH find clinical trials in their communities and helps them better understand their disorder.

“As a leading contract research organization (CRO) focused on developing new drugs and devices for sleep disorders, we created the NarcolepsyProject.com site to help patients identify the clinical trials that might be right for them. Most narcolepsy trials require participants to discontinue their current medications, so patients must endure the resurgence of sleepiness and cataplexy, and in some cases, the rebound of cataplexy can be significant. Some trials involve only outpatient visits (daytime clinical visits), while others require overnight stays for sleep testing (polysomnography, also known as PSG). So, finding a trial that is the right fit for patients is important!

We are proud to present NarcolepsyProject.com as a resource to help people with narcolepsy and idiopathic hypersomnia identify clinical trials that are right for them. We hope that the site will be a useful service to this community and to companies developing new treatments for these disorders that have such a significant impact on patients’ lives” says Gary Zammit, PhD, President and CEO of Clinilabs.

Narcolepsy is a rare and chronic neurological disorder affecting approximately 3 million people worldwide and is considered an autoimmune disorder resulting in the loss of orexin-producing neurons in the brain. It causes a decreased ability to regulate sleep-wake cycles, resulting in disrupted nighttime sleep, cataplexy, hypnogogic hallucinations, and sleep paralysis. Individuals commonly experience severe daytime sleepiness, including sudden sleep attacks that can occur during normal daytime activities such as eating or driving.

Idiopathic hypersomnia is also a sleep disorder that has excessive daytime sleepiness as the main symptom even though night sleep is normal (7-9 hours) or longer (>10 hours). Often, IH patients require long daytime naps and experience brain fog, automatic behaviors, and forgetfulness.

“Through continued research, we can gain a better understanding of the underlying cause of these disorders and develop more effective treatments for patients. This can offer hope for those affected and potentially aid in the improvement of their daily lives. As a result, NarcolepsyProject.com was created to provide patients with a one-stop resource for all current clinical trials investigating narcolepsy and IH” said Angie Randazzo, PhD, Director of Patient Engagement & Advocacy, of Clinilabs.

Individuals who suffer from narcolepsy and IH often have difficulties maintaining their focus and may feel irritable or upset while processing information. The NarcolepsyProject.com website was designed to provide patients with:

  • An easy-to-navigate chart highlighting current, actively enrolling clinical trials for narcolepsy and idiopathic hypersomnia
  • Research terminology that is defined to better help users understand their disorder, treatments, and how research is conducted
  • Two charts to help break out treatment options based on diagnosis

“Understanding the details of clinical trials can be challenging for people unfamiliar with the terminology and processes. It is important to make information accessible, especially to the people directly affected by the research and results” said Tammy Anderson, Assistant Director of Wake Up Narcolepsy (WUN).

The NarcolepsyProject website is available now and can be found at NarcolepsyProject.com.
